About Us
Established in 1938 as The Shipley Paint and Varnish Company, Manor Coating Systems is one of the largest independent paint manufacturers in the UK.
Our third-generation, family-owned business based in Shipley, West Yorkshire produces around 3 million litres of high-performance paint annually from our bulk production and advanced in-house tinting facilities.
Employing around 70 members of staff, the company is at the forefront of paint innovation and technical development across many industry settings and operates in a diverse range of sectors. These include agricultural and construction equipment, building maintenance, portable accommodation and storage, waste management, structural steel, general engineering, fabrication and many others. With expertise and knowledge built up over many years in the coatings industry, the company offers a huge product portfolio available for “off the shelf” selection as well as a bespoke product development facility, ensuring clients can purchase a product best suited to their process and application methods.
We pride ourselves in offering high-performance, high-quality products that will perform as expected. Occasionally this means we are not as competitive as our customers might expect. However, we ensure they understand we will not comprise on performance or quality in the manufacturing process and assure them of the longevity of our systems.
Constantly investing and improving our manufacturing processes ensures we operate effectively and can supply products in a timely manner with the ability to be flexible and versatile in our product offering. Recent investments include bulk storage tanks for resin and solvents to enable larger volumes of inventory, state-of-the-art “tint-in-can” dispensing equipment and updates to packaging lines.
We offer customers outstanding service across the UK and Ireland, operating our own fleet of delivery vehicles as well as partnering external carriers. We also have a dedicated distributor network across the UK allowing customers the flexibility to purchase from a local source.
Environmental Credentials
Manor Coatings has always endeavoured to reduce its environmental impact in terms of manufacturing processes, as well as in the formulation and production of its products and systems.
We operate a continuous improvement programme and regularly review the constantly changing complex legislation, which in turn ensures our customers are able to adhere to current legislation and remain compliant. We also regularly review raw material technologies and environmental initiatives, ensuring we offer the most up to date, innovative and sustainable coating solutions to our customers.
The company has offered a wide range of water-based paints for a number of years. We are now seeing a steady increase in the use of our water-based portfolio as more businesses look to improve their environmental credentials and health and safety protocols.
We are committed to ensuring our customers make the move away from paint materials containing lead, with many of them having already moved to “lead-free” alternatives, following our advances in reformulation of material content.

Associations
The British Coatings Federations (BCF)
Manor Coating Systems has been a member of the BCF for many years, fully supporting the Federation’s in its initiatives and industry support. Representing around 130 companies and producing approximately 90% of the UK’s output of coatings, printing inks and wallcoverings, the BCF is the sole trade association for the decorative, industrial and powder coatings, printing inks and wall coverings manufacturing industry in the UK.
The Federation provides training initiatives, programmes and qualifications for the surface coatings industry. It also lobbies UK, European and International authorities for the benefit of members, develops industry-focussed guidance, agrees industry priorities and encourages industry best practice.
Modular & Portable Building Association (MPBA)
Manor Coating Systems are proud to be an Associate member of the MPBA, being a market leader in the supply of coatings to this growing market sector. The MPBA is the UK’s leading trade association representing the interests of the industry for volumetric buildings and as such, it provides a forum for organisations working in the industry.
Working hard in support of the sector it represents, the trade association seeks to improve standards, raise safety, provide training and encourage research as well as acting as counterpoint to evolving government policies.
